Year 2 blog:
This term, Year 2 have loved exploring our faith through The Vines and The Branches curriculum. We have been learning about God’s wonderful creation, the importance of caring for our world and the special ways we can show our love and thanks to God. It has been wonderful to see children making links to this in other aspects of their learning, such as in Geography when we have been designing our ideal cities.
First we explored the biblical story of Creation, learning how God created the world and everything in it. We reflected on the beauty of the world around us and considered how each part of creation is special and precious.
Next we learnt about Noah and the Ark, discovering how Noah trusted and obeyed God. We discussed the promises God made and reflected on the importance of trust, hope and looking after all living things. Learning the ‘Arky Arky’ song was a highlight! Taking Noah as a role model, we discussed practical ways to care for our world, such as recycling, saving water, protecting animals and plants, and keeping our environment clean. We recognised that we all have a role to play in looking after our common home.
Through the Psalms, we explored ways to thank God for creating us and the wonderful world we live in. We thought about the gifts we have been given, including our families, friends, talents and the beauty of nature. We reflected on how we can express our gratitude through prayer and praise. This was then reflected in some beautiful artwork which is now proudly on display.
Most recently, we explored the Sacrament of Baptism and its importance in welcoming someone into the Christian family. Through a re-enactment, we learnt about the different parts of the Baptism ceremony and reflected on how Baptism celebrates new life and belonging to God’s family. We also investigated important symbols and their meanings, such as water representing spiritual cleansing.
Year 2 have enjoyed deepening their understanding of God’s love and the world around them. We are proud of the thoughtful reflections they have shared and the wonderful ways they are learning to live out their faith by caring for one another and for God’s creation.
