Eco Warriors blog:
Today, our wonderful Eco Warriors from Year 1 all the way up to Year 6 took part in a big litter-picking event around our school grounds and out the front of school. It was a bright and breezy day — perfect weather for making a difference!
Armed with litter pickers, gloves and bin bags, the children worked together in small groups to collect rubbish from the playground, car park and the pavements just outside our gates. Everyone took their job very seriously, carefully picking up crisp packets, sweet wrappers, drink cans and lots of tiny bits of plastic that can harm the environment. They all acted as excellent ambassadors for our school.
Even our youngest Eco Warriors in Year 1 showed amazing teamwork and enthusiasm, while the older children helped to make sure everything was collected safely and sorted properly. We were amazed at the huge amount of rubbish we were able to collect.
After the litter pick, the children talked about the amount they collected and discussed how we can reduce waste, recycle more, and encourage others to keep our environment clean. The Eco Warriors are planning to make an announcement in assembly to remind everyone to use the correct bins and think about how they recycle and can look after the planet at home and at school. We chose this focus as we wanted to make a positive impact in our community and act on some of the UN Global Goals that we have been focusing on this half term.
We are so proud of all the pupils who took part today — they showed kindness, teamwork, and great care for our common home. A huge thank you to our Eco Warriors for leading the way and inspiring us all to do our bit for the environment!
