Year 4 blog:
This week Year four had the great pleasure of taking part in the "Careers in action" workshop led by Into Uni.
The children explored what a career was and what kinds of skills you might need for different career paths. They then spent some time taking an indepth look at 3 different careers. Civil Engineer- during this activity the children became engineers for a town, they had to work as a team to build the required buildings, and carefully consider where on our map they should go. This task required them to work as a team and communicate effectively with each other, problem solving when they came across any issues. Museum curator- during this activity the children were investigating a range of objects that had been collected, they had to decide what they thought they could be and when they might be from. This required them to apply their inferencing skills along with their history knowledge. The final career they explored was a Foley artist. The children were given a range of objects and were read a short story, using only the objects they were given they created a soundscape to fit the story, changing this as the story progressed. This helped them to see how the sound effects are made for films and TV shows. The children had a fantastic session and were all thoroughly enthusiastic about the tasks they were doing.
