Year 4 Visit to MAST Studios – The Boy at the Back of the Class
Year 4 recently enjoyed an exciting trip to MAST Studios to watch the stage adaptation of The Boy at the Back of the Class. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience live theatre and to see a story they could really connect with brought to life on stage.
The play tells the story of Ahmet, a young refugee who joins a new school and sits at the back of the class. Through humour, friendship and determination, Ahmet’s classmates work together to help him feel welcome and to reunite him with his family. The performance explored themes of kindness, empathy and standing up for what is right—messages that strongly resonated with the children.
The pupils were incredibly engaged throughout the performance. There were plenty of moments of laughter, excitement and suspense, and the creative staging and acting kept everyone captivated from start to finish. Many of the children commented on how powerful it was to see the story performed live, and they particularly enjoyed the inventive ways the actors used props and movement to tell the story.
After the performance, we had some excellent discussions about the themes of the play and how the characters showed friendship and courage. The children shared thoughtful reflections about how we can make others feel welcome and supported in our own community.
The staff at MAST Studios were very welcoming, and the children represented the school brilliantly with their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the trip.
We are very proud of Year 4 for the mature and thoughtful way they engaged with such an important story, and it was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the experience.
