Our Local Police Visit 

We were very excited to welcome some very special visitors to our Reception classroom — our local police officers!

As part of our ‘People Who Help Us’ learning, the children have been finding out about the different people who help us in our community and the important jobs they do. Our police visitors gave us a wonderful opportunity to learn more about their role and how they help to keep people safe.

The children were fascinated to talk to the officers and enjoyed finding out what a typical day might look like for them. We talked about how police officers can help people in lots of different situations and how they work alongside other members of our local community.

The officers also joined in with some of our classroom activities, which the children absolutely loved! It was fantastic to see the children confidently sharing their ideas, asking questions and showing our visitors what we get up to in our setting.

Our visitors encouraged lots of wonderful conversations. The children talked about what they might like to be when they grow up and thought about the different people they see in our local community who help others.

Visits like this are a lovely way to bring our learning to life. They help children make connections between what we learn in the classroom and the world around us, while developing their understanding of community, safety, responsibility and the people who help us.

A huge thank you to our local police officers for spending time with us, joining in with our activities and answering all of our questions. We had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to learning more about the wonderful people who help our community!
