Year 5 blog:

What a fantastic start we have had to Year 5! We have been settling into our new routines, building positive relationships and demonstrating excellent learning behaviours across the curriculum. It has been wonderful to see the children showing enthusiasm, curiosity and determination as they begin their new learning journey.

Writing: 

In Writing, we have been exploring the art of setting descriptions, using a range of exciting writing techniques to capture the reader's imagination. The children have been developing their vocabulary and experimenting with descriptive language to create a sense of awe, wonder and curiosity.

We have been thinking carefully about how authors use language to make settings come alive, encouraging readers to visualise the scene and feel immersed in the world we create. The children have been working hard to select ambitious vocabulary, use imagery and develop their descriptive writing skills.

Science:

Science has been full of exploration and discovery as we have begun learning about forces. We have been investigating gravity and air resistance, developing our understanding of how forces affect the world around us.

The children have been asking questions, making predictions and exploring scientific ideas. We have been learning about how gravity pulls objects towards the Earth and how air resistance can affect the movement of objects as they travel through the air.

History:

In History, we have travelled back in time to explore the Wars of the Roses, learning about the key people involved and the events that shaped this important period in British history.

Our learning has focused on the Battle of Bosworth, a significant event in 1485. The children have been developing their understanding of the key individuals involved, exploring the events surrounding the battle and considering its importance in the history of England. We have been encouraging the children to ask historical questions, examine evidence and develop their understanding of how past events connect together. It has been wonderful to see their interest in this fascinating period of history!
