World Book Day 2024
We started World Book Day with an assembly so we could appreciate one another's wonderful costumes but also share our love of reading and our favourite books. Throughout the day, children across the school got to immerse themselves in the world of books with a wide range of engaging activities planned by their teachers. At lunchtime they were treated to a book bistro by our Y5 and Y6 Book Buddies. Please see below for some highlights from our wonderful day!
The children in Reception explored the ‘The Extraordinary Gardener’. They really enjoyed seeing our decorated door for the first time and then having a chance to plant some of their own seeds. During Literacy the children were able to use the skills learnt so far this week in poster making to create posters to advocate for God’s planet. Discussion around plants, trees and saving the planet fueled their desire to create beautiful posters.
Year 1 had a fantastic day learning all about the book Funnybones. We were detectives in maths as we had to work out what number each character represented and then complete the addition. We also did some fantastic character descriptions and then created our own skeleton using paper straws in art!
In Year 3 we explored a book called 'The Black Dog'. We thought about how emotions are represented in the story and even considered why the Hope family were getting more and more scared of a dog! To finish the day, we created newspaper reports detailing the Hope's experience of seeing the black dog.
