Year 1 blog:

English

Our English topic is Supertato! We read the Supertato book which is all about vegetables being superheroes! We have been writing our own character descriptions to describe our own superhero vegetables using amazing adjectives. Some of us have even used similes in our writing. We had a very exciting afternoon where we created our own superhero vegetables. We turned our vegetables into superheroes by giving them a cape, a mask and a superhero belt! Watch out, you might see some of our superhero vegetables saving the day in your local supermarkets!

Maths

In maths this half term we have been learning about equal groups. We started by recognising if groups were equal or not. We were able to count the amounts in each group and spot the ones that were not the same. We then progressed on to drawing and making our own equal groups and adding equal groups. We are now working on division by sharing. Our knowledge of counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s has really come in handy! Well done Year 1!

Design Technology

In DT this half term Year 1 are learning about castles. We have started the topic by learning about the features of a castle. We have talked about the importance and uses of the drawbridge, keep, portcullis, walls, battlements and arrow slits. We were then able to label these features on a picture of a castle. We also thought about the shape of these features using our previous maths knowledge. Our final outcome will be to plan, draw and build our own castle out of recycled materials.
