Year 2 blog:

It’s been a busy and exciting half term in Year 2! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects and showing real curiosity and enthusiasm for their learning.

In Geography, we have been exploring the seven continents and five oceans of the world. The children have loved discovering where different countries are located and identifying the world’s major oceans. We’ve also discussed why oceans are so important to us, learning how they provide food, transport, and help regulate our climate. Linking this to our Catholic Social Teaching principles, we have reflected on how we can care for our planet and protect God’s creation by reducing pollution and showing respect for the natural world.

In Science, we have built on our Year 1 knowledge by learning about the classification of animals. The children have explored the differences between mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish, as well as thinking about how animals survive in their environments.

In Maths, we started by revisiting how to represent numbers within 100 using tens frames, number lines, and base ten equipment. The children have been comparing numbers and developing a strong understanding of place value. We then moved on to addition, becoming fluent in number bonds to 10 and 20 and using these to solve problems efficiently. Our young mathematicians have also become Maths detectives, spotting patterns when adding three single digits and explaining their reasoning with growing confidence.

It’s been a fantastic start to the year!
