Year 3 blog:
This week, the children in Year 3 enjoyed a visit to Lordshill Library. They were incredibly sensible on the walk and represented the school brilliantly. Along the way, they loved chatting with their friends about the types of books they enjoy and what they were hoping to borrow.
Once we arrived, the children were warmly welcomed by Liz, who gave us an informative tour of the library. She introduced the children to the different sections, explaining how books are organised and helping them to navigate the space confidently. The children were particularly excited to spot familiar authors and series, including Dav Pilkey (Dog Man) and Roald Dahl (Fantastic Mr Fox), as well as discovering some new titles they hadn’t come across before.
The children then had the opportunity to explore the library independently and choose a book to borrow. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for reading, with many taking their time to carefully select a book that interested them. Some even stepped out of their comfort zone to try something new.
We also learned that joining the library and borrowing books is completely free, which the children were very excited about. We would strongly encourage families to visit their local library and continue to foster a love of reading at home.
Overall, it was a fantastic trip and a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading beyond the classroom.
