Year 6 blog:
Welcome Back!
After a well-earned rest over half term, Year 6 returned to school full of stories, smiles and energy! It was fun to hear about the exciting trips, quiet moments of relaxation and all the ways we recharged during the break. There was a real buzz in the air as we caught up with friends and got ready for a fresh new half term.
We have launched straight into a new Art topic, where we are comparing the sculptures of Alberto Giacometti and Kendra Haste. Their unique approaches (Giacometti with his long, slender figures and Haste with her intricate wire animals) are already sparking ideas for our own wire sculptures. Over the next few weeks, we will learn how to bring our own ideas to life!
In Science, we have ditched the mouldy bread and we have begun learning about light pollution. Many of us spoke about how artificial light 'trespasses' into our rooms at night and how this can disturb both our own sleep and the behaviour of nocturnal animals. We reflected on how careful choices in lighting can protect wildlife and the environment; this is something we want to think about going forward as 'Architects of a better world'.
In English, we’ve started a reflective unit, thinking deeply about our time in Year 6. We have started to think about what seemed difficult at the beginning of the year (public speaking, tricky maths, making new friends...) that now feels like second nature. It’s been powerful to realise how much we have grown. We really have achieved a lot in just a few months! We are going to use that reflection to write about how these lessons will help us in the future.
It's been a brilliant start to the children's final half term in primary school and we are excited to make every moment count in these next few weeks!
