Eco Warriors blog:
This week, our school’s Eco Warriors delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking assembly focused on climate change and how every one of us can take meaningful action to protect our planet. We introduced our current aim for the school of becoming a carbon zero school. This means that over the academic year we are aiming to make sustainable, impactful changes around our school that will reduce our carbon and support the environment.
To help everyone understand the concept, the Eco Warriors used a simple but effective analogy: a blanket around the Earth. Just as a blanket traps warmth, greenhouse gases are building up in our atmosphere and causing the planet to heat up. This rise in temperature is having a real impact on people, plants and animals all around the world.
They shared a range of practical eco-friendly actions we can take every day, including:
Reducing waste by repairing, reusing, and recycling items
Choosing more plant-based foods and reducing food waste
Saving energy by turning off lights, devices, and lowering heating where possible
Travelling more sustainably by walking, cycling, or scooting to school
Finally, the Eco Warriors encouraged everyone to look out for exciting new carbon reduction projects taking place around school. Each of us has a role to play and together we can help our school continue its journey toward becoming a more environmentally responsible community.
A big well doneto the Eco Warriors for leading such an informative and empowering assembly. Their message was clear: small actions, taken by many people, can create big change. And together we can help our school continue its journey toward becoming environmentally responsible and carbon zero.
