Remembrance:
A Moment of Reflection
This week, members of our school community took part in the Remembrance Day service at the Southampton Cenotaph — a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect and honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served in conflicts past and present.
We began the morning by gathering in the historic Southampton Guildhall with representatives from our other partnership schools. The sense of occasion was unmistakable: children, staff and representatives from across the city came together, united in respect. We were even fortunate enough to meet the Mayor of Southampton, who took the time to speak with us and share the importance of remembrance for the city and its people. It was a memorable and inspiring moment.
From the Guildhall, we joined the procession to the Cenotaph. The atmosphere was solemn yet full of community spirit as people of all ages stood side by side, wearing poppies and observing the silence with heartfelt sincerity.
One of the most significant moments for our school came when Alex, one of our dedicated school councillors, stepped forward to lay a wreath on behalf of the whole school. Alex represented us with pride and dignity, placing the wreath at the foot of the Cenotaph to honour all who have served. It was a powerful reminder of the role young people play in carrying forward the tradition of remembrance.
The service was a moving tribute and an important learning experience — a chance to connect with our local community, reflect on history and show gratitude.
This tribute continued in school this week, with the children creating moving pieces of artwork to show their respect, as well as discussing the meaning behind the different poppy colours and marking the two minute silence - we are proud of all of our children for the respect and maturity they showed throughout our reflections and we are especially proud of Alex for representing our school with such confidence.
Lest we forget.
