Ancient Greek Day :
This week, Year 3 has had a very exciting and enriching day learning about all things Ancient Greece. Children started the day, dressed in their impressive greek outfits, ready to learn about where and when this significant civilisation took place. After that, they explored lots of different artefacts from pots to statues and jewellery that led them to think more deeply about this civilization and what they valued. We then had the opportunity to learn about two integral Greek cities, Athens and Sparta and the differences between them. Children absolutely loved being able to take part in some drama and get into role as an Athenian child or Spartan warrior. In the afternoon, the children learnt all about Alexander the Great. They really enjoyed learning lots of facts about him: he never lost a battle, he tamed a wild horse called Bucephalus and he died when he was only 32. To showcase their knowledge about Alexander, they created information posters about him. They drew a picture of him in the middle and we spoke about how there weren’t any photographs of him when he was alive because cameras weren’t invented. We discovered that we only know what he looked like because he was depicted at many battles in paintings, mosaics and tapestries.
