Year 1 blog:
There's a monster on the loose!
We came in to find our reading corner had been destroyed! After investigating the clues in the classroom, we realised that it had been destroyed by a monster! We then received a warning letter informing us that there is a Grubbalo in our school! We wanted to warn the community so we created a warning poster to alert everyone in Millbrook. We ensured that we used lots of exciting features such as adjectives, conjunctions and capital letters for effect.
Animal Classification
During this half term, we have been exploring animals. We discovered that different animals are categorised into groups based on their characteristics. Specifically, we have examined the characteristics of mammals, birds and fish. We have learnt that all mammals are warm-blooded and have hair or fur, while all fish are cold-blooded and have gills to breathe underwater. We have been working scientifically to classify animals into their appropriate animal groups and provided explanations.
The Three Wise Men
We have been studying the story of Christmas in RE, particularly, the meaning behind the Three Wise Men's gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. We discovered when the Wise Men offered Gold, they were declaring Jesus to be the King of Kings! When they gifted Frankincense, they were stating we must worship Jesus and Jesus was given Myrrh by the Wise Men to demonstrate his willingness to die on the cross in order to save us.
