Year R blog:

It was so special to welcome our new Year R cohort of 25-56 back into the school on Friday for our Pip and Pap Rainbow Phonics time session. The children spent time with their Base teachers listening to an exciting Pip and Pap story, introducing the phonics aliens and doing a little activity, which allowed the children to understand which teacher will be their Base lead.

The children had lots of opportunities to join in when reading the stories with counting, making sounds and actions. The children also worked hard listening for sounds and using initial actions that will be used when phonics is explicitly taught in September. They then had some child initiated learning opportunities, using tuff trays set up linking to the stories. This gave the children and parents some time to talk to those in their base. The children loved these activities and all engaged really well.  It was lovely for the teachers to interact with both children and their parents. The children have started to recognise the class teachers and peers and it was lovely to see the start of some blossoming friendships. Each child was given a brand new school bookbag, full of goodies. The children and parents also had the opportunity to look at the Pip and Pap website alongside looking through some great quality second-hand school uniforms. It was a lovely experience for everyone to feel a part of the Holy Family community.

The Year R team are looking forward to the Teddy Bear Picnic session coming up.
