ECadet blog:

The ecadets at Holy Family have been very busy. We have been meeting fortnightly, discussing the importance of online safety. As ecadets, we believe that it is our role to educate the rest of the school about staying safe online, particularly on online gaming and social media. We have created a memorable acronym to try and help other children in the school remember how to stay safe online. SMART stands for Staying safe online, never Meeting people online, never Accepting emails or pictures from people we don’t know, make sure the information is Reliable and most importantly to always Tell a trusted adult if something makes you feel worried or uncomfortable. Make sure you remember to be SMART! As ecadets, we believe that following these rules will enable children to stay online.

In addition, we were lucky enough to have a special visit from a police officer. Oh no, don’t worry, we weren’t  in any kind of trouble! A police officer came into our school to tell us all about online safety. The police officer told us about how important it is to keep all of our online accounts private. He also talked to us about Cyberbullying. This is where people repeatedly share unkind comments online. This made us think about the importance of being kind online as well as in real life. ALWAYS think before you post or type!

We can’t wait to continue our important role of ensuring online safety in our school!
