Year 1 blog:

LOST PENGUIN ALERT!

Year 1 have been on a very important mission this half term – the hunt for their lost penguin, Paddy! The children became expert detectives and created eye-catching lost posters, carefully using powerful adjectives and nouns to describe Paddy so that anyone who found him would know exactly what he looked like. Thankfully, Paddy made his way back home!

Super Scientists!

But poor Paddy didn’t just get lost… he also got caught in the rain!
In Science, Year 1 became mini scientists and planned and carried out an experiment to discover the best material for Paddy’s raincoat. They learned the word ‘absorbent’ and found out that plastic would keep Paddy dry, while a paper towel would leave him as a very soggy penguin indeed!

Number busters!

In Maths, Year 1 have been busy building their number superpowers. They have been learning how to solve addition and subtraction number sentences, confidently using key vocabulary such as add, subtract, forwards, backwards, minus, takeaway, more and less. The children explored lots of fun strategies too – telling number stories with pictures, crossing out and using number lines. The progress they’ve made has made the Year 1 teachers incredibly proud!

Pip and Pap phonics has been out of this world!
This half term, the children have worked hard to recognise new digraphs and trigraphs, blending them into words and spotting them in their reading. They have also been bravely applying their phonics skills in their writing – fantastic effort, Year 1!

What a fun-filled and hardworking half term it has been! We hope all of our Year 1 children enjoy a well-deserved Christmas holiday, filled with love, laughter and festive fun.
