Ascension Day

18th May is a special day in the church calendar. It is Ascension Day, this was the day when Jesus
went back to the Father in heaven.

You may remember a couple of weeks ago we had a special collective worship, where we were given
some caterpillars to keep safe and to watch as they transformed into beautiful butterflies.
We know that God created the whole world and all the creatures in it. He wanted everyone to be
happy. To love Him and each other, and to take care of our planet.
During his time here on earth, Jesus told lots of stories to help people to understand how we should
live and to prepare us to live with his Father in Heaven after we die. We are all very precious to God.
Every creature God has made and every person here on earth is loved by God, and he wants us to
take care of each other.

They were small but they were very busy eating the food at the bottom of the pot. When they grew
they climbed to the top of the pot and became chrysalides.
We are hoping soon that they will be ready to emerge as a Butterfly. We can link this to the Story of
Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Jesus died on the cross. (The caterpillars become lifeless as they change into chrysalides)
He was placed into a tomb. (They remain entombed as chrysalides)
And he rose again. (They emerge from their tomb with new bodies into a new life)
Jesus ascended into Heaven and is waiting there for us to join him.
He has promised us a place in Heaven and a new, glorious body.
Soon, now we are going to send them out into the world. A bit like when Jesus sent out his disciples.
