Travel Ambassadors:
Our Travel Ambassadors have been busy getting our school community moving this week!
The children recently completed our Travel Count, collecting information about how pupils travel to and from school. This has helped us to build a picture of the different ways our school community travels each day, while encouraging everyone to think about the benefits of choosing more active and sustainable ways to get to school.
Our school’s commitment to sustainable travel has also been recognised through the actions we have taken as a community. Following our Car Free Day, where our teachers made an extra effort to leave their cars at home and avoid parking at school, we were delighted to come 2nd in Southampton! As a result, we have been gifted new bike stands, which will help to make cycling to school an even easier option for our children and families.
The Travel Ambassadors then launched our Walktober competition in a special assembly. This year’s theme is ‘More Trips, Top Tips’, with children being challenged to make more active journeys and share their best ideas for encouraging others to do the same. There are lots of creative ways for children to take part. They can send in their top tips as a poem, rap, diary entry, poster or any other creative idea. Whether it is a great walking route, a way to make the journey more fun or a top tip for getting active, we want to hear their ideas!
All of these actions have contributed to our school being upgraded to a ‘Very Good Travel Plan’, recognising the positive steps we are taking to encourage more active and sustainable travel across our school community.
