A Roaring Good Day at the Zoo!

What a wonderful day we had at the zoo! With the sun shining brightly and our hats on, the children set off on an exciting adventure to meet animals from all around the world. The excitement buzzed through the air as we arrived, ready for a day filled with learning, laughter and lots of animal spotting.

We saw all sorts of amazing animals, including, for some of us, stopping at the tiger enclosure. Everyone gasped in awe as the tiger strutted confidently across its space. It was both beautiful and a little bit scary!

When we went into the Tropical House, some of us were lucky enough to see the sloth. The sloth hung lazily from a branch and this gave us the perfect opportunity to stop and quietly observe.

At the snow leopard enclosure, the majestic cats were incredibly beautiful, with thick fur and long tails perfect for living in the snowy mountains. We were lucky to see one lying on a high ledge, enjoying a moment’s peace.

Along the way, we also saw monkeys swinging through trees, giraffes stretching their necks to reach the highest leaves and a snake curled up in a ball. Every enclosure brought something new and exciting and the children were full of questions and curiosity.

One of the highlights of the day was our educational workshop all about animal classification. The children learned how animals are grouped into mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish and they thought about why. Did you know that if a dolphin loses its teeth, it doesn’t grow new ones? That certainly surprised us!

After a day packed with much walking, observing and wondering, we returned to school with tired feet and big smiles. The children are already looking forward to writing about their adventures in their diary entries during our next writing lesson. What a fantastic way to bring learning to life!
