Year 6 blog:

Our Maths Learning

We have been learning about translation and reflection in Maths and recapping our shapes knowledge from previous years to help us. We've drawn upon one of our favourite saying's in coordinates to help us be accurate when using our coordinate knowledge to support us: "along the corridor and up the stairs".

Our Writing Learning

We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the theme of 'survival' this half term. Taking inspiration from the book, "Explorer by Katherine Rundell" we have written an adventure story that has a problem and resolution where our characters have to survive in harsh weather and land! To help us write realistic stories that were filled with tension and adventure, we read extracts from "The Lost Book of Adventure" and "Survivors". It was fascinating reading about real life survivors and how they escaped the dangerous situations they ended up in.

Our Geography Learning

As geographers this half term, we have been learning about the beauty and danger of our coast lines. We started off understanding the physical side of geographers on what was coastal erosion and the formations they created. Taking this knowledge, we then applied it to human geographers and how it impacts society. We zoomed in on our local geography and studied case studies in our immediate areas such as: Southampton harbour and Portsmouth. In role play, we thought about flooding in West Sussex and considered what implementations had been put in place as well as future methods to help the local community and avoid flooding.
