Year 4 have had a great start to the year!

In Maths lessons, we have introduced rounding to estimate, and we have been working on using column method for addition and subtraction. A key area we are concentrating on is being careful with accuracy when carrying and exchanging. We are finding bar models useful to explore inverse relationships between addition and subtraction.

In English, we have been learning all about building tension. We have enjoyed using drama to explore Roald Dahl's story 'Matilda', and then using this inspiration to craft our own tension building narratives. The drama has really helped us build our understanding of 'show don't tell' and build our descriptive language.

In Science, we have been learning all about the digestive system. This has included experimenting on the effect of different liquids on enamel - we found out that vinegar and sugary drinks had a damaging effect on egg shells if you did not use toothpaste appropriately!

In History, we have loved exploring the differences between the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age. We have explored the theme of continuity and change and we have thought carefully about the reliability of artefacts as source material.

We have also enjoyed developing our shading techniques in Art and Purple Mash coding in Computing.

In R.E., we have been deepening our understanding of stewardship and what it means to be made in God's image. We are embedding these values throughout our whole day in school, ensuring that R.E. and our mission statement is an important part of our daily lives.
