Parent Workshop:

Last week, we were delighted to host an after-school Parent Workshop focused on the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). The aim of the session was to help parents understand what the MTC is, why it is important and how they can support their children at home.

The MTC is a statutory online assessment for Year 4 pupils, designed to check their quick recall of multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. It consists of 25 questions, with only six seconds to answer each one, making speed and accuracy equally important. The check helps schools identify which pupils may need additional support in their maths learning, particularly in arithmetic and reasoning.

During the workshop, staff demonstrated how the digital assessment works and explained how children are gently prepared for it through fun practice activities, games and times tables challenges in class. Some really useful websites that the children can use to practice are below.

One of the highlights of the evening was when parents had the chance to try the MTC themselves! Many were surprised at how fast the questions appeared and what it feels like to be under time pressure - giving them a real insight into their children’s experience.Parents also had the opportunity to ask questions, explore useful online practice tools and discuss strategies for helping their children build confidence and fluency in times tables at home.

It was wonderful to see so many parents getting involved and showing such enthusiasm and support for their children’s learning.Thank you to everyone who attended - your involvement makes a big difference!  We look forward to hosting more workshops and working together to help every child succeed in maths.

If you were not able to attend please do not hesitate to contact the Year 4 teachers with any questions.
