Ascension Day

Ascension Day – 18th May 2023

Ascension Day is a very special day in the church calendar as it is the day when Jesus went back to the Father in Heaven. In preparation for this, all year groups were given a set of caterpillars to nurture and watch transform into butterflies. On Ascension Day, the children gathered in year groups in our school sensory garden for a very special collective worship. During our worship, the children listened to and reflected on scripture from the Bible, followed by releasing their butterflies. This symbolised Jesus’ journey from Earth to Heaven and reminded us that Jesus wants us to spread the good news that Christ is risen and we will one day join him in Heaven. The worship ended with a song, accompanied by Mrs Holmes on her guitar.

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:16-20
