E-Cadets blog:

On Tuesday 10th February, Holy Family joined thousands of schools across the world in celebrating Safer Internet Day.

Did you know, last year approximately 170 countries joined in with this event? We were fortunate to have a guest speaker visit the Key Stage 2 children to share their knowledge and expertise on what is AI (Artificial Intelligence), how it can be useful but, most importantly, how we can ensure we are careful and curious when using AI. We were given a live demonstration of a language learning model, how it works and how it can make mistakes. The children were surprised that even AI is not perfect and can make mistakes! From the assembly, we were given tips and information on how to spot AI in videos and for us to always double check the sources we use and read on the internet.

Later on in the day, the E-cadets delivered an informative assembly that they had created through their own research all about AI to the children in Key Stage 1. It was amazing to see how involved Year 1 and Year 2 were and asked very insightful questions to the E-cadets.

The whole school participated during Safer Internet Day and have taken away important learning with regards to how to be careful when using AI, make informed decisions based on what we see on the internet linked to AI and how to stay safer on the internet. As a school, we are incredibly mindful of how amazing but also how dangerous the internet and AI can be when used by our young people. We will continue to educate all of our children on how to stay 'ready, respectful and safe' on the internet and hope that this message will be replicated at home.
