Year 6 blog:
Skern Lodge Day 1 - Monday 7th July
After an early start and a very kind journey (quite possibly our easiest and quickest ever), we arrived at Skern Lodge and were greeted by beautiful sunshine. We enjoyed our lunch in the sun, whilst getting to know our ‘home’ for the week. Then, within an hour, we were busy starting our first activity session. Two groups had fun working as a team to complete the agility course, followed by squeezing themselves through tight tunnels. Another two groups were braving the heights by completing challenges up on the high ropes, with the final two groups going down to the river to go rafting. Getting into a wetsuit for the first time is always something to remember (often for the wrong reasons) - we had them inside out, back to front and stuck around the ankles! However, we persevered and then had a brilliant afternoon out rafting down the river.
The activities were followed by a delicious dinner, consisting of four different main meal options, alongside a plethora of salad and cake for pudding. After dinner, we had a whole school scavenger hunt as our evening activity. The children worked in small teams to collect as many items as possible, against the clock, to try and gain the most points. This involved quick thinking, problem solving and supporting each other. It was a fantastic way to end our first day and ensured all the children were suitably tired for their first night.
Already, after only one day, everyone has attempted something new and different and it has been a pleasure to watch. We are all so excited for the week ahead, pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, achieving new goals and having so much fun!
Please check back again tomorrow for another update.
