Every year, Earth Day brings together more than a billion people around the world, all taking action to protect our planet. It’s a reminder that even the smallest actions can make a meaningful difference when we work together. What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging positive action, recognised annually on 22nd April. This year, our focus is on reducing our carbon footprint—the amount of greenhouse gases we produce through everyday activities.

Climate change affects everything from weather patterns to food production and wildlife. Understanding it—and more importantly, understanding our role in it—helps us make smarter, more sustainable choices. To recognise Earth day this year the children have come up with three of their own eco pledges —simple actions they will commit to that reduce their environmental impact.

Examples:

  • Eat at least two meat-free meals each week

  • Walk instead of using a car three times a week

  • Drink tap water instead of bottled water at home

  • Wear clothes more than once before washing

Alongside this, there is an at home competition too. After creating their 3 eco pledges at school, the children need to design a poster about the pledges they have chosen along with some facts they have researched. These can be hand drawn or digital. Once completed they need to be brought back to Miss Hughes so that we can be in with the chance of winning some great prizes for the school. We are encouraging as many children as possible to take part.

Earth Day reminds us that protecting the planet doesn’t require huge changes—just consistent, thoughtful ones.

Small changes really can make a big impact.

We look forward to seeing all the fantastic posters the children make.
