Year 4 blog:
Maths:
In our maths sessions this week we have begun our new topic: shape and position. During this topic, we began with a concept lesson. For which the children explored coordinates on a grid, placing themselves on a square and reading what their X axis and Y axis coordinates were. Next, we gave them instructions including different directions so they all had to move in certain ways. This challenged them to ensure they were listening and looking at the axis. We later deepened this understanding by challenging them to create shapes on the grid and read their coordinates. The children have all shown a brilliant understanding of this, and we look forward to seeing what they'll be able to achieve in the rest of the year.
Geography/ History:
Our topic this half term is Water, which combines both history and geography skills, pushing children to develop their thinking even deeper. This week we were all map detectives, using maps and clues to support us with solving a historical mystery. The children displayed excellent teamwork and through their skills of deduction, were able to solve the mystery and offer solutions for it. If you are able to come along to our summer work expo later this half term, you too could become a map detective and put your skills to the test.
