Year R blog:
During this term, we are beginning to explore living creatures. We have started our Summer Term with the arrival of our caterpillars! Each of the Year R bases have their own set of caterpillars. We are going to watch them grow and change into beautiful butterflies. We are so excited to continue learning about our growing and changing world. This term, we will be having our Ugly Bug Ball. On this day and over the course of the week, we will be exploring Minibeasts. We will dress up as our favourite Mini Beast as well as spending time learning and categorising different bugs and insects.
During Phonics, we are continuing to embed our Orange and Pink Phase sounds. Some children have begun to learn their Green Phase sounds. We are beginning to apply and practise these sounds in a range of contexts. We are becoming amazing at reading and writing the sounds we are learning.
As part of our Writing this term, we continue our learning around Minibeasts. We are focusing on authors such as Eric Carle. His work revolves around many different insect books. Our favourite already being - 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We cannot wait to create links between fiction and the real life world. We are becoming confident with using full sentences in our writing. We will begin to check our non-negotiables this term - capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
We have been learning brand new skills in our Maths learning. We have begun the term learning about measuring. Non-standard measure has allowed us to use our natural resources to measure objects in our environment. Next, we are going to transfer this skill into standard measurements. We will learn key vocabulary such as 'cm'.
We cannot wait for the sun to shine even brighter so we can begin growing and planting in our Year R garden.
