Parent Workshop:

Supporting Your Child Through SATs: A Workshop for Year 6 Parents

As the Year 6 children prepare for their SATs, our recent workshop for parents aimed to provide guidance and reassurance during this crucial period.

The session covered an overview of the tests, including English Reading, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) and Mathematics, helping parents understand their structure and purpose. Practical strategies were shared, such as creating a positive learning environment, encouraging a growth mindset, using practice papers and incorporating daily reading and mental maths into routines. The importance of managing test anxiety through relaxation techniques and positive affirmations was also highlighted.

Additionally, the school reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the children through structured lessons and targeted interventions while maintaining a balanced approach to learning and well-being. A Q&A session allowed parents to address concerns about motivating children and managing preparation alongside extracurricular activities. By the end, parents left with practical tips and reassurance that, with their support and encouragement, the children can approach SATs with confidence and a positive mindset.

The school appreciates the engagement of Year 6 parents and looks forward to working together to ensure a successful and stress-free SATs experience for all.
