Year 3 blog:
Horace and Glenda: We cannot wait to meat them!
In writing, the children have been writing a persuasive invitation to invite Horace and Glenda Pork-Fowler (a greedy pig and a glamorous goose) to a luxurious, opulent and memorable dinner; at least it will be memorable for Dr A Hunter. However, the whole thing is a rouse to trick the pig and goose into a pie!! The children have really enjoyed exploring luxurious foods and activities and imagining their dream bedrooms. They have written really great invitations which invite the two silly animals to an evening of extravagant fun, whilst including subtle hints to the gruesome end! The children cannot wait to eat, oh sorry show you!!
Hills and Mountains and Rivers, Oh my!
In Science, we have been exploring the UK. We have thought about the four different countries and their capitals to recap their knowledge from Year 2. To build on this, we then looked at the human and physical geographical features of the UK and where we can find them. The children enjoyed looking at pictures of towns, cities and villages in Hampshire and comparing them to our own city. Our next steps will be to look more in-depth at the physical geographical features of our country, thinking about why people do or do not want to live near them and their changes over time.
Amazing Addition & Stupendous Subtraction
Maths this term has focused on strengthening our addition and subtraction skills. In Year 2, the children learnt how to cross tens and add large numbers in their heads. We have built on this in Year 3 by learning a written method to work out questions. We started with column addition - we applied our place value knowledge to line up our columns and add our hundreds, tens and ones. We then learnt how to exchange into the tens and hundreds. Moving on to column subtraction, we followed the same structure. The children have worked so hard on this topic and have even been able to use this knowledge to problem solve and explain their reasoning! Happy calculating Year 3!
