A Fantastic First Week in Year 6!
What a wonderful first week it has been in Year 6! We could not have asked for a better start to the year, and we are already incredibly proud of all the children. They have settled into their new routines brilliantly and have shown us that they are more than ready for the exciting year ahead.
From the very beginning, our Year 6 pupils have demonstrated model behaviour. They are showing the younger children what it means to be the leaders of our school: ready, respectful and safe.
In RE, we have read passages from Genesis directly from the Bible. We have been thinking carefully about how stories can communicate powerful messages and have explored the importance of metaphor, symbolism and poetry. The children have been encouraged to look beyond the literal story and consider the deeper meanings and messages behind the words.
Our first Art lesson was all about perspective – and we certainly had fun with it! The children explored how artists can manipulate perspective to create unusual effects and illusions.
In Science, we have begun our new topic on Living Things. We even completed our very first Science experiment! We investigated what makes dough rise, making predictions and observing what happened during our investigation. Along the way, we recalled knowledge from Year 4 about MRS GREN (Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition) and used this to help us think about the characteristics of living things.
As a teaching team, we are so excited to spend the year ahead with all the children and to watch them grow, achieve and become the very best versions of themselves.
