Remembrance:
This week, our school came together for a very special Remembrance Assembly led by all our Year 6 children. It was a moving and thoughtful occasion where we paused to remember all those who have given their lives in wars and conflicts around the world.
The children spoke beautifully, each reading a line that helped to tell the story of why we remember. They reminded us that peace is precious, that courage can be quiet and that even small acts of kindness can help to build a better world.
During the assembly, we learned about the history of Remembrance Day, about how fighting stopped on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, bringing an end to the First World War. The children also shared the story of the poppy, a flower that grew on the battlefields and became a symbol of hope and remembrance.
We also learned that people from many countries and backgrounds played a part in these stories of bravery. Soldiers, nurses, doctors, and families from across the world showed strength, kindness, and unity during times of hardship.
To help us reflect, we listened to The Last Post.
The assembly ended with a message of hope for the future:
“Peace begins with us.”
Our pupils showed great maturity, empathy, and respect throughout the assembly. It was a moment to be proud of, not only for their confident reading and teamwork, but for the thoughtful way they helped our whole school reflect on the meaning of remembrance.
Lest we forget.
