Year 3 blog:
A Day of Art, Clay and History!
Year 3 headed off on an unforgettable adventure to the Southampton City Art Gallery and SeaCity Museum — and what a day it was!
Our first stop was the SeaCity Museum, where history came to life! The children explored the story of Southampton through a self-guided tour packed with exciting discoveries. They were fascinated by the giant floating dock, amazed by the stories of brave soldiers during the war and deeply curious as they learned about Southampton’s links to slavery.
Next up was the clay workshop and things got messy in the best way! The children sculpted self-portraits of their heads out of clay, learning real artistic techniques like scoring and using slip to stick pieces together.
To finish the day, the children were taken on a guided sculpture tour by a real artist! They explored the gallery’s amazing collection and heard the legend of Perseus, including how he defeated Medusa!
By the end of the trip, the children weren’t just visitors, they were historians, artists and storytellers, bursting with knowledge and creativity. What an inspiring day!
